Sanford J. Presley was born 1866. He married Georgia Helms December

06, 1887 in Monroe Twp., Union Co., NC, She was the daughter of Josiah Helms and

Mary McGuirt. (NOTE: Mary McGuirt later became the 2nd wife of Joel Helms.) She was born 1867. Children of Sanford Presley and Georgia Helms are:

William Joseph Presley. b. December 25, 1894. He married Maggie Steele.
Lula Presley, born Abt. 1888. She married Hilton Helms; born January 1888.
Hattie Presley, born Abt. 1893. She married Willie Helms WFT Est. 1909-1940; born October 1892.

Georgia died in 1899 and was buried at the Pressley Cemetery.

Sanford’s second wife was Fannie Elizabeth Martin b. 1884. Children of Sanford and
Fannie are:

Arthur b. 1901 died in infancy and buried at Pressley Cemetery.
Georgia b. 1905 d. March 25, 1989 – buried at Secrest Grove. Married Earl Pressley 9/21/04 – 7/12/65.

Pearlie b. December 27, 1909– d. September 1970- buried in Fort Mill. Married LeRoy Helms

Sanford died in 1946 and is buried at Secrest Grove Baptist on the Monroe/Weddington Highway. Fannie (Mama) died in 1975 and rests beside Grandpa Sanford.

William Rufus Presley was born 1866. Died in 1928. He married Amanda A. Helms January 15, 1895 in Monroe Twp., Union Co., NC daughter of Albert Helms and Jane Presley. She was born Aug. 2, 1874 and died Dec 20, 1961. Mandy is buried at Secrest Grove Baptist. Children of Rufus Presley and Amanda Helms are:

Bertha Presley, born December 15, 1900; died October 21, 1968 in ,Union Co., NC. .
Carrie Presley, born 22 March 1897. She married Aaron Helms b. August 04, 1893; died 3 Sept 1962...

Arthur Pressley b. 8 May 1912. Died 29 Sept. 1980 Married Doris Mullis b. 14 May 1926 and died 29 Sept. 1980.

Velma Jane Arlene Pressley b. 2 May 1920 died 13 Oct 2003. Velma married John Lune who was killed in WWII and later married Theron Medlin. Children are: Mary Elizabeth (father was John Lune), Arlene Francis Medlin (father was John Thereon Medlin. Arlene died at 3 months from pneumonia, Judy Diane Medlin, Edith Faye Medlin and Jimmy Lee Medlin.

Thomas M. Presley was born in 1873. He married Ellen Helms, daughter of Daniel Helms and Permelia Helms. She was born 1872.

James Presley was born Abt. 1874, and died 1925. He married Annie Martin. She was born Abt. 1874.

Martha Presley was born 1875, and died 1928. She married Bailey B. Helms September 24, 1893 in Monroe Twp., Union Co., NC. He was born March 1865.

NOTES FROM JIM NEAL:

Thomas ‘s son, Richard, lived in Mecklenburg County where he appears in the 1800 and 1810 census.. In 1797 he purchased 25 acres on Camp Branch and 100 acres on Richardson Creek. In 1833, he deeded 150 acres to his son Eleaszer.

Eleazer is the father of Andrew C. Presley. Eleazer lived in Mecklenburg County in the Weddinton area. He appears in deed records in 1833 involving 150 acres from Richard Presley, again in 1833 when he deeded to Henry Hargett 185 acres and in 1832 with the sale of a slave, Sam, to Richard Pressley. Eleazer and Netty (or Nelly - last name unknown) had nine children.

Andrew C. Presley lived in the Weddington area during his early years but moved closer to Monroe after the Civil War. He married Ellen Helms and they had seven children. One of his sons, Sanford J. Pressley, is my Great Grandfather. I was not quite four years of age when Grandpa died in 1946 but I still have some impressions of him. His son, William Joseph Pressley is my Grandfather. Grand Daddy Joe was born in 1894 and was one of the adults who shaped my life. One of his daughters, Louise Pressley Neal is my Mother.
