Richard Presley was born 15 March 1760 in Anson County, North Carolina and died circa 1832 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He was the fourth of six children of Thomas and Elizabeth Presley, the oldest of two boys. Richard married Mary Helms before 1787. She was born 22 May 1766, the daughter of Tilman Helms and Rachel Craig. Mary died after 1840.

The children of Richard and Mary Presley married largely into the Hargett and Helms lines.

1. Elizabeth (Isabel) Presley born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 19 January 1787.She married Henry Hargett. Henry is the son of Henry Hargett and Anna Broom.

Elizabeth (Isabel) Presley and Henry Hargett had the following children:

a. Phoebe Hargett born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 1802. Phoebe died after 1880. She married Walker Helms. Walker was born 1800 in North Carolina. Walker was the son of Abraham Helms and Phoebe Helms. Walker died before 1880.

b. Richard Jenkin Hargett born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 13 April 1811. Richard died 18 May 1887 in Franklin County, Alabama. He married Eliza Ann Hartis about 1829. Eliza was born 9 November 1810 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Eliza died 16 June 1886 in Franklin County, Alabama. NOTE: Richard Hargett and Eliza had the following children:

This Hargett family moved to Franklin County, Rockwood, AL. Margaret Sophronia Hargett b. 3 June 1844 at Belle Green, Franklin Co. AL. and died 1 May 1928 at Rockwood, AL, married Thomas Alford Duncan on 27 Aug. 1865 who died 29 Oct. 1923, Rockwood and is buried in Russellville next to his wife. Thomas Alford was in the cavalry of Gen. Nathan B. Forrest in the Civil War. Thomas Alford Duncan and Margaret Hargett Duncan had nine children. 2. Sarah Presley born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 18 March 1789. Sary died 18 May 1858. Her body was interred Secrest Cemetery in Monroe, Union County, North Carolina. Sarah married William Hargett about 1806. William was born 22 January 1789 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. William was the son of Henry Hargett and Anna Broom. William died 2 October 1857. His body was interred Secrest Cemetery in Monroe, Union County, North Carolina.

Cary died 6 July 1855. He married Lucinda Keziah 29 December 1853. He married Elizabeth Owens 15 September 1856.

b. Esther Hargett born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 18 August 1812. Esther died 10 August 1852. She married John Keziah, 1 August 1833. NOTE: John Keziah was a son of Dunning Keziah. This may be his grandson.

c. Strickland Hargett born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 4 February 1814. He married twice: 1. Clarinda Helms 1 August 1833. Clara was born 1812 in North Carolina, and 2. Susannah Helms 13 August 1874 in Union County, North Carolina. Susannah was born 1849 in North Carolina. Susannah was the daughter of Walker Helms and Nancy. Susannah died between December 1897 and 26 May 1906.

d. Phoebe Hargett born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 19 April 1818.

e. Nathan L. Hargett born in North Carolina 27 August 1828. Nathan died after 1880. He married Elizabeth. Elizabeth was born 1829 in South Carolina and died after 1880.

4. Eli Presley born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 16 October 1794. Eli died after 1870.

Eli married Anna Hargett. Anna is the daughter of Henry Hargett and Finley.

5. Evan Presley born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 1814-1820. Evan died before 1870. He married Rebecca McGuirt about 1840. Rebecca was born 1815-1820. and died between June 1880 and 23 July 1882.

8. Andrew Presley born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 1820. He married Elizabeth Yandle 5 October 1841 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Elizabeth was born 1819 in North Carolina.

9. Elizabeth Presley was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 1821. She married James Moore. James was born 1818. James was the son of David Moore Jr. and Agnes Helms. James died 10 November 1876.

10. Telitha (Tabitha) Presley was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 1822. Telitha died after 1880. She married Burrell Helms circa 1837. Burrell was born 1815 in North Carolina. Burrell was the son of Burrell Helms and Elizabeth (?). Burrell died after 1880.

11. Mary Minnie Presley was born in North Carolina 1824. Mary died about 1884. She married Blackman Helms. Blackman was born 1826 in North Carolina. Blackman was the son of Wiley B. Helms and Martha C. Crowell.

12. Gillam Presley was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina April 1828. He married twice: 1. Holly Helms 5 March 1848 in Union County, North Carolina, and 2. Sarah E. Polk 19 June 1900.

13. Elias Presley born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 1828. Elias died about 1855. He married Lydia. Lydia was born 1825. Lydia died after 1880.

14. Eleazer Presley born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 4 September 1800. Eleazer died after 1881.

e. Salathiel Presley born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 9 March 1834. Salathiel died 10 September 1905 in Union County, North Carolina. He married Martha J. Starnes 24 December 1867 in Union County, North Carolina. Martha was born March 1848 in North Carolina. Martha was the daughter of William Phillip Starnes and Linney.

f. Josephine Presley was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 27 July 1835 or 1837. Josephine died 14 December 1909. She married John Allen Helms 20 December 1865 in Union County, North Carolina. John was born March 1833 or 10 January 1838 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. John was the son of Wiley B. Helms and Martha C. Crowell. John died after 27 March 1910. His body was interred Oak Grove Baptist Church Cem. in Union County, North Carolina.

g. Phebe Presley was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina February 1840. Phebe died after 1900. She married Tobias Helms 28 January 1861 in Union County, North Carolina. Tobias was born 3 March 1838 in North Carolina. Tobias was the son of
Gabriel B. Helms and Elizabeth Keziah. Tobias died 5 January 1903 in Sandy Ridge, Union County, North Carolina.

h. Andrew C. Presley was born in Union County, North Carolina April 1843. He married Ellen Parmelia Helms 13 August 1865 in Union County, North Carolina. Ellen was born March 1848 in North Carolina. Ellen was the daughter of Eleazer W. Helms and Mary Helms. Ellen died after 4 July 1921.

i. Thomas Presley born in Union County, North Carolina January 1846. He married twice. 1. Milly Helms 10 August 1865 in Union County, North Carolina. Milly was born February 1846. Milly was the daughter of Burrell Helms and Telitha (Tabitha) Presley, and
2. Martha J. Starnes 3 January 1912.
