Elvis Memory

When Elvis left from this world a star,
God had called him to heaven from a far.

He seen Elvis getting very tired here
and invited him to the heavens up there.

He left many a family and friends so dear,
but they will always have the memories of his talent here.

He lived a life of music, movies and all
to sing up in heaven with a voice that you could call.

The most amazing voice who sung a many a song

from gospel to rock and roll made him stand very tall.

He is with his mom that he loved and was very close

next to her in heaven showing her his many a pose.

The bright blue eyes shines in our hearts
when you listen to his music you will see his spark.

As his life was ended very sadly in his Graceland home

on that summer night in August almost thirty one years ago.

--Tammy Evans

THE GIFT AND THE LEGACY OF ELVIS AARON PRESLEY

As a teenage girl in the l950s, I saw Elvis Presley as most teenagers did…WOW! Now, as a sixty-four year old grandmother, I see so much more. I see a man who served his country, family and fans until he could no longer stand, all because he loved God. How many people of his status do we know that have kept their entire family with them the way he did? I know of none.

I am very perceptive when reading body language, especially the eyes. Watching Elvis all these years, I know that he wanted to be remembered for more than singing Hound Dog and screaming girls. I believe he would be happy to know that his kin and fans have come together to use his name and celebrity to honor the past for the future of America.

I looked into the eyes of Elvis and saw a kind man with a huge heart. I saw a man who was never ashamed to show his love for God and the traditions that make countries and families strong. Often I saw pain, but I never saw retaliation.

Elvis was a joygiver and he gave with a glad heart and soul. What a wonderful legacy he left us in his music. Whose Spirit does not soar when listening to America The Beautiful, The American Trilogy, If I can Dream, I Will Remember You and Softly I Will Leave You? His Gospel songs always uplift and inspire. Even his songs and movies about romantic love and fun have positive messages.

Elvis was a gift and we can honor the Gift and the Giver by doing our part to see that his dream of “a better land where all his brothers walk hand in hand” comes true.

In a video of the 75th Reunion of the Battle of Gettysburg, the Union and Confederate flags are flying together. The Old Confederates are reenacting Pickett’s Charge and the Old Union Soldiers are cheering them on. They all shake hands at the top. If they could do that, why can’t we?

We cannot rewrite history and grow. We can choose to rise above judgments and see the good in all.

Elvis was an American and a Son of the South. He was not allowed to freely be in America, yet he accepted his role gracefully. I, for one, am so proud of him. I hope we can carry on what he started by living an example of brotherhood for those who follow us. Let’s work to see that our historic grounds and heritage remain sacred.

Elvis was not an idol or a king. He was an imperfect man whose love was perfect. Let’s do him proud. Hey Elvis! We love you and we’re gonna’ get ‘er done! Thank you…Thank you very much.

On Elvis and Taylor...

No one will ever replace Elvis. We all know that. For the first time, however, there is a new musician that somehow sings and performs so that I feel that "Elvis feeling" in my heart and soul. I can't explain it in words. I just know that I have "Elvis week" from American Idol saved on my TV and still feel the excitement when Taylor Hicks comes down the aisle singing and dancing. Then I fast forward to "In the Ghetto" and the Soul/Gospel side of Elvis resonates in his voice somehow.

I admit to being old school and had never downloaded music before watching Taylor Hicks do Elvis songs. I had to have my kids show me how. Now I'm listening to music far more than I have in years. I have Elvis and many other great artists on my computer along with some soulful tunes recorded by Taylor Hicks prior to his being on American Idol. What a fun musical revival!

No, he's not Elvis, but in some profound and unexplainable way he captures the same spirit.

I believe we are seeing the start of the “Elvis” mania again in Taylor Hicks! I saw Elvis as a young woman and the chills still remain…I came home that day and said,”don’t touch me I belong to Elvis!”. The magic Elvis created was beyond and other!

I was at the Idol concert and it was a very controlled audience until Taylor came out….it was the same electricity I felt watching Elvis. I know I have not said anything different here..but I know what I feel. This is our chance to feel the music again Taylor is a new look at the soul like Elvis was.

“It’s music man”…that’s was I felt about Elvis and now again the same with Taylor!

Two men with their music in their souls letting us in!
