A Cousin Has Passed -
Former Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC) | 5 July 2008 | by Barbara
Lee Rowe | Former
Republican Senator Jesse A. Helms has passed away on the fourth
of July, 2008. He was 86 years of age. Senator Helms was a
descendant of Thomas Presley, and was born in Monroe, North
Carolina on October 18, 1921. He served in the United States
Navy during WWII. For many years he had fought for justice
and the American way. He was labeled quite often a racist
for some of his views and remarks, but Sen. Helms stood up
for what was right, fair and balanced, and not for political
correctness, the downfall today of our nation's priorities.
In an ad for his 1990/1996 campaign as Mayor of Charlotte,
Sen. Helms established that many were overlooked for employment
simply because they were not minorities. This is not racist,
it is fact. The commercial shows a white fist crumbling up
a job application and underneath were the words: "You
needed that job...but they had to give it to a minority."
Senator Helms had recollections of his youth spent in Monroe,
where the Presley and Helms families came up. "I shall
always remember the shady streets, the quiet Sundays, the
cotton wagons, the Fourth of July parades, the New Year's
Eve firecrackers. I shall never forget the stream of school
kids marching uptown to place flowers on the Courthouse Square
monument on Confederate Memorial Day." Today, political
correctness teaches that our children should not remember
those who fought for the Confederate states although everyone
of those soldiers was and is an American veteran. Senator
Helms never lost a race for Senate since 1972. He will be
missed. I still recall the phone call I received from him
one Christmas Day two years ago, before he became ill. He
wished me a very Merry Christmas and told me that if I ever
needed his help, he would gladly give it.
From his conservative views such as comparing abortion to
the Holocaust and Sept. 11 attacks, Sen. Helms was a defender
for God and country.
"I will never be silent about the death of those who
cannot speak for themselves," he wrote in his memoris.
"Here's where I stand."
Sen. Helms and his wife, Dorothy, had two daughters and a
son whom they adopted in 1962 after the boy, 9 years old and
stricken with cerebral palsy, wrote in a newspaper article
that he wanted parents.

The
Presley Family Tree
that has been selling as Elvis memorabilia is inaccurate.
Be advised that David Pressley is NOT Elvis' ancestor.
The accurate tree stems back from Andrew
Pressley, Sr. to Andrew Pressley, Jr., to
John Pressley, to Dunning Pressley, Sr., to
Dunning Pressley, Jr., to Rosella Elizabeth Pressley, to
Jesse D. McDowell Pressley, to Vernon Pressley who changed
the spelling of "Pressley" to "Presley"
after Elvis' birth.
Elvis
and Posthumous Memberships
The
Kin of Rock and Roll founder,
Barbara
Lee, spoke at Marlowe's Barbeque
in Memphis about of the myths and mis-conceptions of the
Presley family history.
Lee presented Lee Millar, standing beside her, a member
of the General Nathan Bedford Forrest Camp #215 in Memphis,
who is helping Lee to focus on the service record of Dunning
Presley, Elvis' 2nd ggrandfather. The Forrest Camp is planning
an honorary membership for Elvis into the Sons of Confederate
Veterans of for that chapter. Had Elvis' been with us and
knew of his family's CSA service, he would have proudly
joined the organization.
Some family members close to the situation feel that the
idea may not go over well with Elvis' immediate family and
the camp has concerns. Lee suggests that the issue is a
family matter which should involve members of the Presley
family whose ancestors had served in the War Between States.
"There are many
of us who know exactly how Elvis felt about his southern
heritage and about the Civil War in general. It has nothing
to do with race, it is a matter of honoring our ancestors
who fought and died for "God and country," is
all. Elvis, as I am told by those closest to him, would
have loved the idea.. I hope the gentlemen of the Forrest
Camp can meet the criteria with Dunning's record which needs
further study before we head in that direction."
Also
during her speech, Lee displayed before the congregation
of over 100 people a posthumous certificate of membership
that
The Kin of Rock and Roll received in Elvis'
name on behalf of a cousin who served nobly and perished
in Point Lookout prison in 1864, Pvt. Darling Pressley.
The certificate was received from the Point Lookout Prison
Descendants Organization for display in the Presley family
history store and museum in PA.
"I
hope we can do this, " says
Lee, "after all, it's something Elvis would have wanted
and after all, it's time to do more of the things he would
have wanted to do and enjoy."

founder,
Barbara Lee, was presented with this awesome charcoal drawing
of Elvis wearing a civil war period uniform. It was presented
to her by the artist, Mark Kinan, who prepared it for both
Barbara Lee and Elvis' love of Civil War history.

THE MYSTERY IS
SOLVED!
Thanks to two people in Verona,
MS,
Mr. Julian Riley and Ms. Rachel Ann Harden,
the mystery of Rosella and Rosalinda Presley has not only been
resolved, but told in such an honorable and awesome way that
it is a must to review. There is a new website entitled, Roots
Of Elvis Presley, where all of
this information is being stored. Go to:
www.rootsofelvispresley.com/
and have
a good look around. You are in for a very special treat. Julian
and Rachel have spent over two years developing this project
which is part of a special museum located in Verona, MS. For
the very first time, Rosella's story is told and the true grandfather
of Elvis is revealed, a guarded family secret for many years
which Elvis and Vernon knew about but kept out of respect for
Rosella and the family. Now, the family story is told, and the
many ancestral and descendant families are for the very first
time revealed. These folks are to be commended for their tactful
and honorable approach to this long-mysterious puzzle and long
a foremost major stumbling block to the completion of the Presley
Family History.
Thank
you, Julian and Rachel. Please visit their wonderful site and
at this time, The Kin of Rock and Roll
wishes to thank Julian and Rachel for the diligent efforts
in bringing this story out in the incredible, heartwarming manner
in which they have. And a special thanks to Mackey Hargett,
the "secret visitor" to Graceland® for over twenty
years who held the key to the (his)story. Thanks to Mackey,
too, founder Barbara Lee, finally learned the whereabouts of
her Hargett line who went down to Itawamba County!
The
Presley Family line from Rosella and MaryJane "Rosalinda"
Presley is so amazing and well-documented that Graceland®
sent two of their archivists down to Verona to check the story
out. As Julian tells it,
"They
were blown away by it!" Hopefully,
Graceland® will begin to work with the Presley family and
their researchers to aid in the completion of a final and "official"
Presley Family History.

Defends Elvis as
founder, Barbara Lee, traveled to Memphis and found
quite a few interesting people there, including the
ever-lovely, Suzanne Leigh, who co-starred with Elvis
in Paradise Hawaiian Style.
Lee was able to confront former MM, Sonny West, regarding
his book about Elvis. Supposed to have been a loyal
friend to Elvis, West alleges that Elvis' was "stoned"
while filming his movies, just one of the items that
infuriated Lee. "I
have heard from several sources who both knew Elvis
and worked with him during those movie days, and they
advised me that Elvis did not get 'stoned' during filming
and that the idea is absolutely ridiculous for back
in the day he would have been thrown off the film. The
drug abuse scenario is getting way out of hand here,
" says Lee,
"and so is the degradation of the departed Elvis
by those who thought they knew him best."
In a rare interview with
Essential Elvis UK, Rosemary Alden, sister of Ginger
Alden, said the following to Andrew Hearn: "I
remember Elvis saying how upset he was with a lot of
the people he had working for him. He had already gotten
rid of a few. He said that he had several in mind who
were on their way out and they were definitely aware
of it!"

Our
American Condition
we
family of Americans have come up against great odds. We are
in a time when our government stands to undergo a complete
change not only in the value of leadership, but in the type
of leaders.
We as Americans, have a solid obligation to help keep America
safe. Do what you can to be a true patriot. Do the right thing.
Elvis did not involve himself much with polititians, though
he was hounded by them on occasion for his support. Elvis
did not appreciate the misuse of his name to aid in another's
political gain. When you vote, consider first the plight of
our nation; that our safety and security is foremost if we
want to survive as a people.
